Report: Man City close to signing in-demand Bournemouth star Semenyo
Manchester City are making progress in their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo and expect to seal the move in the coming days, reports transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Director Hugo Viana, who's in direct talks with Semenyo's camp, has been pushing hard to finalize a deal and beat rivals Manchester United to the forward's signature, Romano adds.
The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Tottenham Hotspur were also tracking the Bournemouth star, but his preference is to join Pep Guardiola's team during the January transfer window, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
Chelsea opted not to make a formal approach for the 25-year-old after an initial inquiry, Ornstein adds.
The transfer window officially opens Jan. 1.
Semenyo has been Bournemouth's standout player this season, leading the Cherries with eight Premier League goals. The Ghanaian international has also provided three assists.
His contract, which runs until 2030, reportedly includes a £65-million release clause that must be activated within the first two weeks of January in order to give Bournemouth ample time to secure a replacement.
Semenyo, who was born in England and represents Ghana at the international level, has made 106 appearances for Bournemouth since moving from Championship club Bristol City in 2023.
