Lewis Hamilton continues to close in on his sixth Formula 1 championship after his victory at the Mexican Grand Prix on Sunday.

With Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas finishing third, Hamilton's championship goals will have to wait until at least next weekend at the United States Grand Prix. Hamilton has won five of the past seven races at the United States GP, dating back to when the race moved to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

In the event Hamilton goes on to claim his sixth title, the Brit will jump into sole possession of second place on the all-time list of championships. Currently at five, Hamilton is tied for second with Juan Manuel Fangio and only behind Michael Schumacher, who won seven titles between 1994-04.

Pole-sitter Charles Leclerc seemed to be in good form early, but a nightmarish pit stop on lap 44 dropped the Ferrari driver to fourth, where he stayed for the remainder of the race.

Sebastian Vettel rounded out the podium, finishing between the two Mercedes drivers for a second-place finish.

Toro Rosso's Daniil Kvyat, who finished ninth, was handed a 10-second penalty for his role in driving Renault's Nico Hulkenberg into the barrier on the final lap. As a result, Kvyat dropped to 11th place, and out of the points. Kvyat's teammate Pierre Gasly wound up taking ninth, while Hulkenberg finished 10th.
