The $400-million prize pool is $42-million larger than the one shared by all 32 teams at the 2014 World Cup. Then, Germany won $35 million of an available $358-million pool, while runner-up Argentina earned $25 million.

In 2002, the total prize money shared among all World Cup teams was just $134 million, according to FIFA. That nearly doubled for the 2006 tournament in Germany ($236 million), before climbing to $348 million in 2010.
