A day after the Belgian football federation revealed that Eden Hazard broke his ankle during Red Devils training, Chelsea confirmed its star attacker is expected to return to training in approximately three months.

The Blues updated the timeline for Hazard's recovery with a statement on its website Monday shortly after the reigning PFA Player of the Year posted an update on social media.

Hazard, 26, took to Twitter to assuage the fears of Blues supporters, posting a picture with the message: "Everything went well with my ankle operation, now I start the road to recovery! I will be stronger. Thank you for your support!!"

Initial reports expected the three-time Chelsea Player of the Year to miss six-to-eight weeks recovering from the right ankle fracture, meaning that Hazard would surely miss Belgium's June 5 friendly against the Czech Republic and a World Cup qualifying match against Estonia four days later.

Now, it appears as if Hazard will be sidelined for the first stretch of the Premier League season which kicks off the second week of August. The official schedule is set to be announced June 14, with Chelsea's first clash a Community Shield date with rival Arsenal at Wembley Stadium on Aug. 6.
