Jesus Ferreira scored a late equalizer to salvage a 1-1 draw for the United States against Mexico on Wednesday in a friendly international match in Arizona.

Both teams fielded understrength sides with few Europe-based players released for the fixture because it was outside of FIFA's recognized international calendar.

Ferreira coolly tucked away a low finish in the 81st minute to secure a draw for the Americans, who had fallen behind to a 55th-minute effort from Mexico's Uriel Antuna.

Antuna gave Mexico the lead after a defensive blunder by US central defender Aaron Long, who miscued a first-time pass near halfway that sent Antuna racing through on goal.

The Mexico midfielder took his time before finishing past US goalkeeper Sean Johnson.
