Empoli sack Zanetti, hire Andreazzoli after thrashing at Roma
Paolo Zanetti became the first coach to be sacked in Serie A this season, his tenure at Empoli ending on Tuesday just four matches into the season after a 7-0 thrashing by Roma.
"Empoli announce that they have removed Paolo Zanetti and his two assistants, Nicola Beati and Fabio Trentin, from their first-team coaching duties," the Tuscan club announced in a statement.
Aurelio Andreazzoli, who has already had three spells in charge at Empoli, was later named as Zanetti's successor with the club saying that the 69 year-old "has committed himself until the end of the season, with an option for a further season".
Zanetti, 40, joined Empoli in June 2022 and ensured his side's survival in the top flight, finishing last season in 14th place.
Empoli, however, have lost their first four games of the season, conceding 12 goals without scoring a single one.
