Lionel Messi has collected yet another accolade, bagging his 100th goal in European competition Wednesday against Olympiacos at the Camp Nou.
The Barcelona star is the second player to notch a century of continental tallies after Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo reached the standard with a brace against Bayern Munich during last season's Champions League-winning campaign.
Messi now has 97 Champions League goals to go with a record three in the UEFA Super Cup.
Pos. | Player | Goals | Years |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Cristiano Ronaldo | 110 | 2003- |
2 | Lionel Messi | 100 | 2005- |
3 | Raul | 71 | 1995-2011 |
4 | Ruud van Nistlerooy | 56 | 1998-2009 |
5 | Karim Benzema | 51 | 2006- |
The crafty Argentine is also the youngest player to make 100 Champions League appearances (28 years, 84 days), the holder of a joint-record seven hat-tricks (C. Ronaldo), and one of 14 to bag five goals in a European Cup match.
