Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani, who asked to leave the club during the January transfer window, is likely staying put.

Atletico Madrid had hoped PSG would accept a deal worth an initial €15 million, but sources told ESPN’s Jonathan Johnson and Julien Laurens that talks have collapsed.

PSG sporting director Leonardo reportedly derailed negotiations by demanding €20 million for Cavani, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

Cavani, the club’s all-time leading scorer, told Leonardo he wanted out earlier this month. The 32-year-old has dropped down PSG's pecking order this season, making just six starts across all competitions.

Atletico apparently offered €15 million, plus €3 million in potential add-ons for Cavani. However, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel seemed hesitant to let the striker leave.

"If we want to achieve our objectives - winning as many trophies as possible - it's best with 'Edi', yes," Tuchel said.

Cavani was also linked with a move to Chelsea. When asked about the club’s potential interest, Blues boss Frank Lampard said Cavani is a “great player” and raved about the Uruguayan's mentality.

Cavani, who has scored 198 goals in 283 matches since joining PSG from Napoli in 2013, will likely leave the club on a free transfer.
