Drew Smyly's season is over.

On Wednesday, Seattle Mariners executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager Jerry Dipoto announced the left-hander will undergo Tommy John surgery on his throwing arm.

His surgery is tentatively scheduled for July 6 and will be performed by Dr. James Andrews.

Following the surgery, Smyly will miss the remainder of the 2017 season and is expected to be out of action for 12-to-15 months while he recovers.

After pitching for USA at the World Baseball Classic in March, Smyly appeared in just three spring training games for Seattle before he was put on the disabled list with a left flexor strain.

Smyly threw 50 pitches in a simulated game June 24, but was scratched from his following sim game after experiencing a setback.

The 28-year-old was acquired in a trade from the Tampa Bay Rays in January in exchange for three players.

Over the course of his career split between the Detroit Tigers, Tampa Bay Rays, and Mariners, Smyly owns a 3.74 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP across 156 appearances, 85 of which have been starts.
