No good deed goes unpunished - or, in this case, without impeccably timed color commentary.
As ESPN announcer Jessica Mendoza explained the bat's origins - the end of that explanation can be heard at the beginning of the video - the Astros outfielder swung on Heath Hembree's second offering of the evening and sent it out for Houston's second home run of the sixth inning.
"Watch this bat in Springer's hands. This is a short bat for a guy who's 6-2," Mendoza said. "I asked him about that bat because it's a lot shorter than something he's used to swinging. It's 33 inches, 30 1/2 ounces. He got that bat from Mookie Betts."
Mendoza said the Boston Red Sox outfielder's last name almost perfectly in sync with the crack of the bat.
