Mets' Reyes: Cespedes was 'hot' following Puig's HR

It appears teams mired in a 2-6 slump are especially sensitive about opponents admiring their home runs and slowly trotting around the bases, as New York Mets star slugger Yoenis Cespedes was very mad at Yasiel Puig for appreciating his three-run dinger to take a 5-1 lead during Wednesday's game.

"Yo was hot," the Mets' Jose Reyes told North Jersey, adding his own criticism about Puig. "You have to be better than that and make people respect you as a player."

Following the home run, Puig lingered in the batter's box before slowly taking off around the bases and having a verbal exchange with Wilmer Flores and Travis d'Arnaud.

For manager Terry Collins, the anger from Flores, who appeared to start the disagreement with Puig, was welcome with the team nine games under .500, ahead of only the Philadelphia Phillies in the division.

"I love it when people get mad," Collins said of his team. "They care."

Reyes said he had never seen Cespedes, who's no stranger to admiring his own home runs or flipping his bat, so mad before.

Following the game, Cespedes and his fellow countryman Puig exchanged words on the field in what appeared to be a less heated discussion.

The Dodgers went on to win 8-2, with no retaliation against Puig. They wrap up a four-game set Thursday night.
