Report: Mets 'open for business' on offers for Bruce, Granderson, others

It's safe to say that 2017 has not gone according to the New York Mets' plan.

Four straight losses have dropped the team - a perceived preseason contender - to fourth in the NL East, 12 games behind the division-leading Washington Nationals. The Mets are even further behind the second wild-card spot, sitting 14 1/2 games back.

The team is "open for business," reports ESPN's Buster Olney, with veterans including Curtis Granderson, Jay Bruce, Addison Reed, and Asdrubal Cabrera available to other clubs looking to make a deal.

The Mets aren't "aggressively" looking to identify trade partners, the New York Post's Joel Sherman reports, but, knowing they won't bring back several pending free agents, will listen to offers.

Injuries have played a central role in the Mets' struggles this season, with several young pitchers, most notably Noah Syndergaard, sidelined for extended periods already.

If the Mets can manage better health in 2018, the rotation should mostly be in order with Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz, Robert Gsellman, and Zack Wheeler all still under contract. They'd likely be expecting young offensive talent as the return in possible deadline deals.

Perhaps these potential roster moves would finally pave the way for top prospect Amed Rosario to make his MLB debut. Rosario is listed as MLB.com's No. 3 overall prospect, and has hit .322 with seven home runs, 15 doubles, 48 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in Triple-A this season.
