Derek Jeter and his ownership group appear ready to put their stamp on the Miami Marlins.

The soon-to-be owners plan to replace team president David Samson, who will move on from the organization, a source told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Jeter and billionaire Bruce Sherman are said to be interested in hiring a top executive, and will also add a chief operating officer, according to the Dan Le Batard Show. The Marlins' front-office directory doesn't currently list a member with that title.

Samson, who joined the Marlins in 2002 with current owner and former stepfather Jeffrey Loria after both executives left their roles with the Montreal Expos, confirmed the Jeter-led group won the bid to purchase the Marlins for $1.2 billion.

Though it's been reported the move will be made official in the next month or so, Jeter and Sherman are said to be seeking additional financial aid from investors.

Samson led the charge to invest $3 billion in redeveloping Marlins Park in partnership with Miami-Dade County back in 2009. The move was widely unpopular with fans, as it relocated the Marlins from a shared stadium with the Miami Dolphins to Little Havana in a ballpark that opened in 2012.
