Watch: A's Olson wallops HR in 5th straight game

Rick Osentoski / USA TODAY Sports

Matt Olson is on one heck of a run. In the top of the second inning on Tuesday night against the Detroit Tigers, the 23-year old Oakland Athletics rookie drilled a solo home run to put the A's on the board.

It's the fifth straight game Olson has gone yard, which is the longest streak since Frank Thomas homered in six straight back in 2006.

The MLB record is eight consecutive games with a home run, something Ken Griffey Jr., Don Mattingly, and Dale Long have accomplished, according to Baseball Reference.

The long ball was Olson's 23rd in 55 games this season, but the real power surge didn't kick in until September. In 18 games since the start of the month, he's hit 12 home runs.
