One of the closest MVP ballots in MLB history saw six players receive first-place votes, but only one of the 30 ballots had Kris Bryant's name at the top of the list.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com had the 2016 NL MVP repeating again this season, despite many of his peers putting the Chicago Cubs third baseman much further down on their ballots.

BOWMAN'S BALLOT 1-5

Player Team Vote Finish
Kris Bryant CHC 1st 7th
Giancarlo Stanton MIA 2nd 1st
Joey Votto CIN 3rd 2nd
Nolan Arenado COL 4th 4th
Paul Goldschmidt ARI 5th 3rd

Bryant received only seven total votes in the top five, with one third-place vote, and five fifth-place votes, to finish seventh overall with 132 total points. Despite receiving the solo first-place vote, Bryant finished with 170 fewer points than winner Giancarlo Stanton.
