Orlando Cepeda, the San Francisco Giants legend inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999, was rushed to a Bay Area hospital Monday night, a team official told Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

His condition remains unknown, but the Giants are keeping in touch with his family, the official confirmed.

Cepeda, who turned 80 in September, made his MLB debut with the Giants in 1958 and quickly established himself as one of the game's premier first basemen, taking home the National League Rookie of the Year award that summer and earning All-Star nominations in each of the following six seasons. Over parts of 17 seasons in the big leagues, Cepeda, who won the 1967 NL MVP award with the St. Louis Cardinals, hit .297/.350/.499 (133 OPS+) with 379 home runs, 417 doubles, and 142 stolen bases in 2,124 games.
