Yankees set new franchise marks in proficiency at the plate

In case you didn't know, the New York Yankees are quite good at hitting the baseball.

The Bronx Bombers set a pair of franchise records during Monday's 10-5 victory over the Texas Rangers. They combined for five home runs, four coming off Rangers starter Bartolo Colon, making it the third consecutive game they've gone deep at least four times.

Somehow, despite all the outstanding lineups over the years featuring players such as Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, and Alex Rodriguez, this is the first time the Yankees have ever hit four or more homers in three straight games.

Additionally, with Gary Sanchez's double and Aaron Hicks' homer in the ninth inning, the Yankees tallied 10 extra-base hits. In doing so, they have ripped eight or more extra-base hits in three straight games for the first time in the storied franchise's history.

It's also only the fourth time in the modern era any team has had such a streak, and the first since the Boston Red Sox did it in 2003.

Hicks' moonshot came in garbage time, but the rest came in the thick of what looked like a back-and-forth contest. Gleyber Torres, who entered the season as the team's top prospect, took Colon yard on two occasions. Meanwhile, Aaron Judge broke out of his 0-for-17 slump with a solo shot and Neil Walker finally hit his first home run as a member of the Yankees.

Torres, who only just played in his 25th game with the Yankees, is simply happy to be part of the prodigious offense.

"The lineup is awesome," Torres said, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. "Everybody does their job, everybody helps the team. I just try to help my team, too, try to put in something, hit or defense. I try to hep and try to win."

Despite the team's history, this year's Yankees may be the best collection of bats the boys in pinstripes have ever assembled. Unlikely as that may seem at first blush, the results have been exceptional.
