Report: Cubs among teams in contact with Tulowitzki
The Chicago Cubs are among the teams that have been in contact with shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and will send a scout to observe a workout, according to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports.
Tulowitzki hasn't played a major-league game since 2017 but teams are going to be lining up to get a look at him now that he's a free agent. Six teams were said to be in the running for his services Friday; he is expected to narrow the list shortly.
The Toronto Blue Jays released the 34-year-old from the final two years of his contract earlier this week, bringing an unceremonious end to his tenure in Toronto following a season lost to injuries.
The five-time All-Star slashed .250/.313/.414 with 36 home runs and 39 doubles in 238 games over parts of three active seasons with the Blue Jays following a trade from the Colorado Rockies.
How he would fit in Chicago remains to be seen. The Cubs currently have Ben Zobrist and Javier Baez set to split duties in the middle infield. The team retained shortstop Addison Russell for next season but he has been suspended 40 games - retroactive to Sept. 21 - for violating MLB's domestic violence policy.
