The New York Yankees' search for starting pitching help could lead them to dip into the free-agent pool once again.

The club is maintaining some interest in left-hander Gio Gonzalez, although there is no word that a deal between the two sides is close, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

New York is dealing with an ailing rotation as ace right-hander Luis Severino is going to be out until at least May with a rotator cuff injury and CC Sabathia, who had offseason heart surgery, won't be ready until April.

The market for Gonzalez appears to have cooled after the Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, and San Diego Padres reportedly showed interest in the 33-year-old's services in February.

Gonzalez went 10-11 with a 4.21 ERA and 148 strikeouts in 171 innings in 2018 between the Brewers and Washington Nationals.

However, the two-time All-Star is just one season removed from finishing sixth in National League Cy Young voting after compiling 3.4 WAR, according to FanGraphs, across 201 innings with Washington in 2017.
