The Cincinnati Reds will be without All-Star second baseman Scooter Gennett for eight-to-12 weeks after the 28-year-old suffered a right groin strain during Friday's spring training game, the team announced.

Gennett suffered the injury while fielding a ground ball against the Milwaukee Brewers. After throwing out Yasmani Grandal at first base, Gennett stayed hunched over in shallow right field and required training staff to help him off the field.

In Gennett 's absence, Jose Peraza will shift to second base, with Jose Iglesias taking over at shortstop, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic.

Since being designated for assignment by the Brewers prior to the 2017 season, Gennett has blossomed into a key piece for the Reds. In his two seasons in Cincinnati, he owns a .303/.351/.508 slash line with 50 homers over 295 games.
