Major League Baseball has handed Atlanta Braves starter Kevin Gausman a five-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Urena.

Gausman will appeal the suspension, and therefore be available to pitch Monday's scheduled start against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 28-year-old threw behind Urena in the second inning during Friday's game between the division rivals, and home plate umpire Jeff Nelson promptly ejected him.

Friday's contest marked the first time Urena pitched against the Braves since the right-hander plunked Ronald Acuna Jr. on the left elbow in August 2018. Urena wound up serving a six-game suspension.

Gausman owns a 4.83 ERA and 4.19 FIP through 31 2/3 innings this year.
