Mets' Cano becomes third active member of 2,500-hit club
New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano collected the 2,500th hit of his illustrious career when he roped a ground-rule double during the first inning Tuesday against the San Diego Padres.

Cano became the 101st player in Major League Baseball history to reach the milestone. The only active players to record 2,500-plus hits are Albert Pujols (3,106) and Miguel Cabrera (2,714). Cano recorded 821 of his hits as a member of the Mariners, while 1,374 came with the New York Yankees.
The Mets acquired Cano, 36, along with Edwin Diaz in a blockbuster deal that sent top prospect Jarred Kelenic back to the Seattle Mariners.
The eight-time All-Star is now within striking distance of Joe Morgan, one of the best second basemen of all time, who notched 2,517 hits during his 22-year Hall of Fame career.
