Chicago White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Monday.

The procedure will take place Wednesday, according to James Fegan of The Athletic. White Sox general manager Rick Hahn expects Rodon to return by the second half of the 2020 campaign.

Since being selected third overall in the 2014 MLB Draft, Rodon has failed to live up to expectations, but prior to going down with an elbow injury this season, the 26-year-old was enjoying a bit of a breakout.

Despite posting a 5.19 ERA through seven starts, Rodon authored a 3.52 FIP thanks to a remarkable 29.1 percent strikeout rate.

Hahn told reporters that he's had conversations with other teams regarding starting pitching, but the market isn't great for starters, according to Chuck Garfien of NBC Sports Chicago.

As a team, the White Sox own the third-worst staff ERA in the majors, behind only the Baltimore Orioles and Texas Rangers. Ivan Nova and Reynaldo Lopez - the team's only qualified starters - both possess ERAs above 6.00.
