New York Mets outfielder Michael Conforto has been diagnosed with a concussion after a nasty collision with teammate Robinson Cano on Thursday afternoon, according to The Athletic's Tim Britton.

Conforto took a shot to the face from Cano's shoulder before slamming to the ground during the fifth inning. He was then removed from the game.

The 26-year-old will take the train back to New York and skip the team's upcoming series in Miami, according to Tim Healey of Newsday.

"I hit him really hard," Cano said of the collision.

This season, Conforto ranks second on the Mets in home runs (eight) and slugging percentage (.521). He leads the team in walks (30) and runs scored (27).

It was a hard-luck afternoon for the Mets, who also had Jeff McNeil depart the game against the Nationals with abdominal discomfort.

New York is already without Jed Lowrie (knee), Yoenis Cespedes (heels), Steven Matz (arm), and Justin Wilson (elbow).
