The New York Mets have placed second baseman Robinson Cano (low-grade quad strain) and utility man Jeff McNeil (hamstring tightness) on the 10-day injured list, the team announced Thursday.

Cano, whose hustle has recently been questioned after two separate baserunning gaffes, ironically injured himself running out a grounder in Wednesday's win against the Washington Nationals.

The 36-year-old is hitting .241/.287/.371 with just three home runs in his first season in New York following a blockbuster offseason trade from the Seattle Mariners. Meanwhile, McNeil - who started 52 games at second in 2018 - has a .879 OPS this campaign.

In a corresponding move, the club has called up infielder Luis Guillorme and reliever Ryan O'Rourke from Triple-A Syracuse.

The injuries are starting to pile up for the Mets as Cano and McNeil join key contributors Michael Conforto (concussion), Brandon Nimmo (neck inflammation), and Seth Lugo (shoulder tendinitis) on the IL. Jed Lowrie, who signed a 2-year, $20-million deal in free agency, hasn't played a game yet due to a hamstring issue and the already injured Yoenis Cespedes suffered a freak injury on Monday.

New York (23-25) sits 4 1/2 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies entering Thursday's action.
