With the 27th pick in the 2019 MLB amateur draft, the Chicago Cubs selected Ryan Jensen, a junior right-handed pitcher from Fresno State.

Jensen started his NCAA career slowly, posting a 6.60 ERA as a freshman reliever. However, he just completed a remarkable turnaround in 2019, his first season as a permanent starter. Jensen was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year and led the conference in wins.

He features an electric fastball that was given a 70 grade by scouts at MLB Pipeline and can reach between 94-98 mph.

MLB.com money quote: "With some effort to his delivery and an undersized frame, many see Jensen moving to the bullpen, with his power stuff playing up and allowing him to move more quickly. There is some feel for pitching here, so a team could send him out as a starter and see how it looks at the outset of his career."
