The Toronto Blue Jays released left-hander Clayton Richard on Thursday, the team announced.

Richard was reinstated from the injured list on Sept. 2 but hadn't pitched in a game since that time.

The veteran left-hander, who turned 36 on Thursday, had been on the IL recovering from a strained lat he sustained in mid-July.

After being acquired from the San Diego Padres in an offseason trade, Richard went 1-5 with a 5.96 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP across 45 1/3 innings in his lone campaign with Toronto.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays reinstated right-hander Elvis Luciano.
