Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI on his injured right knee showed patellar tendinitis, according to Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times.

The 32-year-old will have a PRP injection next week and resume strength training after taking six weeks off, Torres adds.

"He can begin load-bearing exercises and working out, which is a plus, because it’s something he didn’t get to do last year," manager Brad Ausmus said, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. "Those knee issues crept all the way into January. Hopefully it gets done early. A little over six weeks from now, he can start getting his offseason program in and be ready to go for spring training."

Upton has appeared in just 63 games for the Angels, missing the first two-and-a-half months of the season with a sprained toe.

The veteran outfielder was hitting a meager .215/.309/.416 with 12 home runs and 40 RBIs in 256 plate appearances. His season ends just shy of a major career milestone, too. Upton needs two more home runs to reach 300 for his career.

He's still under contract for three more seasons and is owed $72 million.
