Royals' Gordon pondering retirement

Kansas City Royals outfielder Alex Gordon is thinking about hanging up his cleats.

The 13-year veteran has spent his entire career with the Royals. He's told Kansas City general manager Dayton Moore that he'll make a decision this winter about whether he'll continue playing, according to Andy McCullough of The Athletic.

"Losing 100 games, you're tired," Gordon said. "Obviously, there's going to be days when you're like, 'I don't want to play next year.' I want to take the grind out of the season before I make that decision.

"And I don't want to make a decision where I say I retire and then, 'No, I change my mind, I want to come back.' I want to be sure that I'm done."

The 35-year-old is in the last guaranteed season of a four-year contract he signed with the Royals in 2016. There's a mutual option for 2020 with a $4-million buyout.

Gordon is a three-time All-Star and six-time Gold Glove Award winner. He played in the Fall Classic twice and won the World Series in 2015 with Kansas City.

His career slash line is .258/.339/.413 with 186 home runs and 733 RBIs in 1,694 games for the Royals, who enter play Thursday with a record of 56-97.
