The Atlanta Braves apparently liked what they saw from Josh Donaldson this season, so they'll try to re-sign the three-time All-Star before the 2020 campaign, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Atlanta can extend a $17.8-million qualifying offer to the 33-year-old. If Donaldson were to decline, he'd enter free agency and be linked to draft-pick compensation.

Donaldson would then join a crowded third-base market, which also includes Anthony Rendon and Mike Moustakas (if the latter's mutual option with the Milwaukee Brewers isn't exercised).

The 2015 American League MVP signed a one-year, $23-million deal with the Braves last offseason. He bounced back in a big way after only appearing in 52 games with the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians the year prior because of injuries.

Donaldson finished inside the top 10 among qualified third basemen in home runs (37), RBIs (94), doubles (33), slugging percentage (.521), and OPS (.900) for the National League East winners.

He's also among the finalists for an NL Gold Glove thanks to a .969 fielding percentage in 1,297 innings. His plus-15 defensive runs saved was tops among NL third basemen, according to FanGraphs.
