The Los Angeles Angels are pushing hard to sign free-agent third baseman Anthony Rendon, and they're trying to get a deal done on Wednesday night, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

When asked about his client list on Wednesday evening, Rendon's agent Scott Boras said that "more signings could come in hours. Probably later tonight," according to David Kaplan of NBC Sports Chicago.

The Angels were one of the most aggressive teams pursuing right-hander Gerrit Cole before he signed with the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Los Angeles reportedly offered Cole just under $300-million over eight years, according to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times.

With the Angels pivoting from Cole to focus on adding Rendon, the Texas Rangers have reportedly exited the race to sign the superstar, a source told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals have also been linked to Rendon this offseason, though the Dodgers were apparently not optimistic about their chances as of Wednesday afternoon.

Rendon is the top position player available in free agency this offseason. He finished third in NL MVP voting after batting .319/.412/.598 with 34 home runs, 44 doubles, and 126 RBIs in 146 games with the Nationals en route to helping the club secure its first World Series title in franchise history.
