The Boston Red Sox plan to name Ron Roenicke as the team's 48th manager, but they're waiting until the conclusion of the sign-stealing investigation before making an announcement, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday that he hopes the results of the investigation are released by the time spring training camps open. Pitchers and catchers begin reporting Monday.

"Our managerial search is not yet completed," the Red Sox said in a statement Friday, according to Chris Cotillo of Masslive. "We will comment at the completion of the search."

The Red Sox reportedly interviewed former Toronto Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons for the gig earlier this week, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Roenicke has served as Red Sox bench coach since the beginning of the 2017 season, meaning he was with the team through the 2018 season - which MLB is investigating.

The 63-year-old held a managerial job with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2011-15. Roenicke led the club to a 342-331 record over those five seasons while getting ejected 10 times.

Over an eight-year playing career, Roenicke authored a .691 OPS with six different teams.

Boston was left with a managerial vacancy after MLB released findings of the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scheme during the 2017-18 seasons. The report heavily implicated Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who was the Astros' bench coach in 2017. The Red Sox subsequently parted ways with him.
