The San Diego Padres and outfielder Juan Lagares agreed to a one-year deal, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

There are conflicting reports on whether or not it's a minor- or major-league deal.

Lagares will make $1.4 million next season plus performance bonuses if he plays in the majors, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

He can opt out of his deal if the Padres fail to place him on the 26-man roster by March 19, Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports reports.

The 30-year-old Dominican has only played for the New York Mets since breaking into the majors in 2013. He owns a career .254/.297/.361 slash line with 25 home runs and 179 RBIs.

Lagares won a Gold Glove in 2014 for his defensive work in the outfield.
