The Boston Red Sox named Ron Roenicke their interim manager on Tuesday.

"We're very happy to have Ron leading us right now," Red Sox general manager Brian O'Halloran said. "He's respected throughout our organization, inside and outside the clubhouse, and throughout the game as well."

Roenicke is carrying the interim title because the Red Sox are still waiting for the results of an MLB investigation into their alleged use of illegal sign-stealing.

"We'll address permanency when the investigation is complete," Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said.

The 63-year-old Roenicke spent the last two seasons as Boston's bench coach. He replaces Alex Cora, who parted ways with the Red Sox in January after an MLB investigation concluded he was involved in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal in 2017.

Roenicke has big-league managing experience. He won 342 games with the Milwaukee Brewers as their skipper from 2011-15. The Brewers won the National League Central title with Roenicke as manager in 2011.

Before he transitioned into a coaching role, Roenicke spent eight seasons in the big leagues as an outfielder, appearing in 527 games with six teams.
