Major League Baseball's sign-stealing investigation of the Boston Red Sox will extend into spring training, a source told Jimmy Golen of The Associated Press.

MLB is looking into allegations that the Red Sox used video replay to decipher opponents' signs before relaying the signals to batters during their 2018 World Series-winning season.

Commissioner Rob Manfred previously said he hoped the league would complete the investigation prior to spring training, but it appears that won't happen. Pitchers and catchers reported to spring facilities on Tuesday, and the Red Sox will hold their first workout on Wednesday.

The league hasn't made a formal announcement.

Additionally, the Red Sox on Tuesday named Ron Roenicke the team's new interim manager after previous skipper Alex Cora agreed to leave the club following his role in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scheme.

When the Astros were found to have illegally stolen signs during the 2017 season, the league suspended general manager Jeff Luhnow and skipper AJ Hinch for one year, and owner Jim Crane then fired them both. No players were punished for their involvement.
