As illegal sign-stealing continues to dominate headlines, Michael Conforto made it clear Tuesday the scandal won't affect the way he views former Houston Astros - and now New York Mets teammates - Jake Marisnick and J.D. Davis.

"They're our guys now, and we're moving forward," Conforto said, according to David Lennon of Newsday.

"I don't see any issues that are going to come up," he added. "Those guys are our guys. They were there. ... But I don't see us dwelling on that at all."

The Astros' illegal sign-stealing system involved banging on a trash can to help inform hitters as to which pitch was coming.

During the 2017 season, 83 thuds were heard on 364 pitches delivered to Marisnick, while Davis' at-bats featured 14 on 49 pitches, according to signstealingscandal.com.

Marisnick and Davis will have an opportunity to answer questions regarding the scandal when Mets position players report to camp Saturday. However, Conforto is more focused on building a winning culture that includes both players.

"If I'm being completely honest, guys will talk about it, but there's not going to be any animosity towards them," Conforto added. "These things, when you're in a team setting, any of these guys that are in here now, they're our guys, and that's the way winning teams are. We're one group."

Davis, who was acquired from the Astros in a 2019 trade, had a breakout campaign for the Mets last season, hitting .307/.369/.527 with 22 home runs and 57 RBIs in 140 games.

Marisnick was dealt to the Mets from Houston in December after six seasons with the Astros.
