White, Tudor among 3 elected into Cardinals Hall of Fame

The St. Louis Cardinals elected Bill White, John Tudor, and Tom Herr into the franchise's Hall of Fame, the team announced Friday.

White, a first baseman, played for the Cardinals from 1959-65, representing the club at the All-Star Game eight times and winning six of his seven career Gold Gloves during that span. White was also a member of the 1964 World Series team, a season in which he finished third in National League MVP voting.

"My honest feeling is I shouldn't be in," White told Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch after learning of his induction. "There are guys who have done a helluva lot more than I did. I don't have the stats to be in. I didn't play long enough, didn't get enough base hits, didn't drive in enough runs, didn't hit enough home runs. Whatever."

Tudor played two stints with the Cardinals: a three-and-a-half-year stretch that represented his prime from 1985-88, and one season in 1990 when he returned to the club to finish his career. In 1985, the left-hander finished second in NL Cy Young voting to Dwight Gooden after authoring a remarkable 1.93 ERA and league-leading 0.94 WHIP over 275 innings while boasting a 21-8 record. Tudor also led the Senior Circuit that year with 10 complete-game shutouts.

Herr played second base for the Cardinals from his debut in 1979 until midway through the 1988 campaign when he was traded to the Minnesota Twins for Tom Brunansky. During his tenure with the club, Herr hit .274/.349/.354 while making one All-Star appearance and earning down-ballot MVP votes twice in 1981 and 1985.
