Clevinger sent home for violating team protocols day after Plesac banished

One day after the club sent Zach Plesac home for going out with friends, the Cleveland Indians have also sent Mike Clevinger to isolate for violating team protocols related to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the club announced Monday, according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com.

Clevinger went out with Plesac on Saturday night, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The right-hander flew with the team on Sunday.

During a team meeting on Sunday, Clevinger defended Plesac's actions, sources told Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

"Today the organization learned that Mike Clevinger violated team protocols on the club's recent road trip to Chicago," the team said. "He has been instructed to quarantine and will undergo subsequent testing away from the team."

Clevinger, who was scheduled to start Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs, will be replaced in the rotation by Adam Plutko.

The 29-year-old is one of the best starters in a deep Cleveland rotation. Over three starts this year, Clevinger has authored a 3.24 ERA and 6.09 FIP in 16 2/3 innings.
