The Houston Astros placed designated hitter Yordan Alvarez on the injured list with right knee discomfort prior to Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies, according to Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle.

Infielder Taylor Jones has been recalled in a corresponding move.

An MRI on the slugger's knee came back clean on Monday, but he remained out of the lineup and subsequently landed on the IL retroactive to Aug. 16. Alvarez has been dealing with knee issues for some time.

"I asked him when did he start having these problems, and he said back in Double-A," Astros manager Dusty Baker said, according to Alyson Footer of MLB.com. "Most of the time when you have knee problems, they don’t subside very quickly. And when they do, they have a history of coming back."

The 2019 American League Rookie of the Year was reinstated from the IL on Aug. 14 and appeared in two games before being sidelined with the knee injury. He hit a home run in his first at-bat of the season.
