Cubs claim Hamilton off waivers from Mets

The Chicago Cubs claimed speedy outfielder Billy Hamilton off waivers from the New York Mets, the team announced Monday.
Hamilton, who owns 302 stolen bases across eight major-league seasons, slashed just .045/.083/.045 in 17 games with the Mets.
The San Francisco Giants traded the 29-year-old to New York in early August after he failed to play a single game for them in 2020. He's also suited up for the Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Royals, and Cincinnati Reds.
Chicago also added infielder Ildemaro Vargas to the active roster, designated lefty Matt Dermody for assignment, and released catcher Jose Lobaton.
