Brewers' Shaw dislocates shoulder diving for ground ball

Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw was helped off the field with an injury after fielding a ground ball Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Brewers announced later that Shaw dislocated his left shoulder on the play.

Shaw made a diving attempt to field Jonathan India's grounder in the bottom of the second inning. He remained on the ground in pain, and trainers from both teams were quick to attend to him.

Shaw's arm was immobilized before training staff accompanied him off the field.

Manager Craig Counsell said postgame that Shaw had his shoulder popped back into place and will undergo more testing on Thursday. A timetable for his return is not yet known, though it's very likely to be a long-term absence.

"It's not going to be a couple of days," Counsell said, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "Another player is going to get an opportunity to step up."

Counsell added that Luis Urias, who is currently playing second base, will likely shift over to third to replace Shaw once Kolten Wong returns from the injured list, per WISN's Stephen Watson.

The 31-year-old rejoined the Brewers this winter after spending last season in Toronto. He entered Wednesday hitting .192/.280/.339 with six home runs and 28 RBIs over 201 plate appearances in 2021.

Jace Peterson entered the game for Shaw and took over at second base, while Urias shifted to third.
