The San Diego Padres acquired second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier and cash considerations from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for infielder Tucupita Marcano, right-hander Michell Miliano, and outfielder Jack Suwinski, the team announced Monday.

The Padres will receive $1.4 million from Pittsburgh, a source told Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic. By adding cash, the Pirates boosted the caliber of prospects coming from San Diego, Biertempfel notes.

Frazier, who was an All-Star this month, is batting .324/.388/.448 across 97 games and leads the majors with 125 hits.

The 29-year-old will make an already imposing Padres lineup even deeper. San Diego features a stacked infield with Jake Cronenworth at Frazier's customary second base and an outfield of Trent Grisham, Tommy Pham, and Wil Myers.

The acquisition won't be a rental, either, as Frazier has one more year of control before being eligible for free agency following the 2022 season.

Frazier could be only the first piece added by San Diego ahead of Friday's deadline. The team is now working to acquire another starting pitcher, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB.com.

Marcano, 21, is the prize piece of the trade. He made his MLB debut earlier this season and was the Padres' No. 5-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He's hitting .272/.367/.444 with six home runs and more walks than strikeouts in 44 games at Triple-A.

While Miliano and Suwinski weren't among the Padres' top-30 prospects, both have found some success in the minors this year. Miliano, 21, struck out 52 batters in 25 2/3 innings in Single-A. Suwinski, 22, has posted a .949 OPS with 15 home runs in 66 games at Double-A.

The Chicago White Sox were also linked to Frazier in the lead up to next Friday's deadline.
