Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera became the 28th player in history to join the 500-homer club Sunday.

Cabrera hit the milestone blast off Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Steven Matz in the sixth inning at Rogers Centre.

The two-time MVP becomes the first Venezuelan to join the 500-homer club. Cabrera is also 45 hits shy of reaching the 3,000-hit club, which currently includes 32 players.

The 11-time All-Star's 500th homer is the latest accolade in an illustrious career that effectively guarantees him future residency in the Hall of Fame. He won the Triple Crown in 2012 and entered Sunday with a career .311/.388/.534 slash line.

Cabrera becomes the newest member of the 500-homer club, with David Ortiz joining in 2015 and Albert Pujols eclipsing the mark in 2014. Members of the 500-homer club joined together to wish congratulations, including Pujols, Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez, Jim Thome, and Gary Sheffield.

The Tigers won the game 5-3 in extra innings.
