Padres fire pitching coach Larry Rothschild
The San Diego Padres dismissed pitching coach Larry Rothschild, the team announced.
"Larry has been a tremendous asset for our organization over the last two seasons, and we appreciate the experience, hard work, and dedication that he brought to the position. We wish him nothing but the best in the future," Padres manager Jayce Tingler said in a statement.
Rothschild's dismissal comes in the midst of an unsuccessful run for San Diego. The Padres are 2-9 in their last 11 contests and sit 13 games behind the first-place San Francisco Giants in the National League West. Despite their struggles, the Friars are only one game behind the Cincinnati Reds for the second NL wild-card spot with over a month remaining in the regular season.
Prior to joining the Padres in 2020, Rothschild was the longtime pitching coach for the New York Yankees dating back to 2011. He also previously served as Tampa Bay's manager and as a pitching coach with the Chicago Cubs.
