Right-hander Nick Pivetta is the ninth player on the Boston Red Sox to test positive for COVID-19 during the club's ongoing outbreak, according to Christopher Smith of MassLive.

The 28-year-old is vaccinated and his positive test is considered a breakthrough case.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Pivetta is asymptomatic.

Pivetta was scratched from his start on Sunday after he was placed on the COVID-19 injured list.

Enrique Hernandez, Xander Bogaerts, Martin Perez, Matt Barnes, Christian Arroyo, Hirokazu Sawamura, Yairo Munoz, and Jarren Duran - as well as two staff members - have also tested positive.

Hernandez will be reinstated prior to Tuesday's game and will bat leadoff while playing center field against the Tampa Bay Rays, Smith notes.

Meanwhile, Bogaerts is feeling great and could return to the lineup Friday, Cora said, according to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
