Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes and closer Josh Hader combined to throw the second no-hitter in franchise history Saturday night after limiting the Cleveland Indians to a lone baserunner in a 3-0 victory.

Burnes struck out 14 - including his 200th of the season - and walked one on 115 pitches through eight innings before being lifted for Hader.

The right-handed starter said he had to lobby to stay in the game beyond the seventh inning due to his season-high pitch count.

"I think anyone would want to go out there," Burnes said, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I had to fight pretty hard to go out for the eighth."

Burnes, one of the frontrunners for the National League Cy Young award, was perfect through six innings before issuing a leadoff walk to Myles Straw to kick off the seventh. He lowered his ERA to 2.25 on the season with the dominant outing.

Lefty Juan Nieves blanked the Baltimore Orioles on April 15, 1987, for the only other no-hitter in franchise history.

It's the ninth no-hitter thrown during the 2021 MLB season, surpassing the eight in 1884 to set a new all-time mark.

Cleveland is the first team in MLB history to be on the losing end of three no-hitters in the same season. Chicago White Sox lefty Carlos Rodon and Cincinnati Reds starter Wade Miley finished them off earlier in the year. Coincidentally, Zach Plesac started on the mound in all three games.
