Yankees' Severino 'not happy' after being placed on 60-day IL
New York Yankees right-hander Luis Severino won't pitch again in the majors until at least mid-September, and he's not thrilled about it.
The Yankees placed Severino on the 60-day injured list after a frenzy of roster moves leading up to Tuesday's trade deadline.
"I was not happy," Severino said, according to Brian Heyman of Newsday. "I was not expecting that."
The two-time All-Star added that he wasn't feeling any discomfort after throwing Monday. The 28-year-old landed on the 15-day IL in mid-July with a low-grade lat strain.
Severino ended up meeting with manager Aaron Boone to discuss the move.
"Obviously, it was a little bit of a roster situation. It's probably going to be a situation where it's close (to mid-September). We want to get Sevy back as a starter and built up to that point," Boone said.
Severino owns a 3.45 ERA with 1.07 WHIP and 95 strikeouts over 86 innings (16 starts) after missing almost three years due to multiple injuries.
The Yankees' rotation now includes Gerrit Cole, Frankie Montas, Nestor Cortes, Domingo German, and Jameson Taillon. New York dealt left-hander Jordan Montgomery to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
