The Seattle Mariners announced Friday that All-Star outfielder Julio Rodriguez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain.

Seattle recalled outfielder Taylor Trammell from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

Rodriguez, 21, exited Thursday's game against the Oakland Athletics with lower back tightness.

The young star has put together a tremendous debut season and is a strong contender for AL Rookie of the Year. Rodriguez owns an .844 OPS with 27 home runs, 73 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases across 129 games.

The Mariners have stumbled of late, dropping seven of their last 10 contests. They've struggled to produce at the plate while slugging third baseman Eugenio Suarez has been shelved with a fractured finger.

Seattle has mustered just 36 runs over this 10-game funk but leads the Baltimore Orioles by three games for the final wild-card spot in the American League.

The Mariners are looking to punch their first ticket to the playoffs since 2001 and end baseball's longest postseason drought.
