The Boston Red Sox and Texas Rangers are among the most serious suitors for free-agent outfielder Mitch Haniger, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Texas was reported as an interested party earlier this offseason, along with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Los Angeles Angels.

Haniger, 31, returned from injury this year to play 57 games down the stretch for the Seattle Mariners. The former All-Star hit .246/.308/.429 with 11 homers, and he accrued 0.8 WAR, according to FanGraphs.

Over his six years (five seasons after missing all of 2020) with the Mariners, Haniger authored a 124 wRC+, appearing in 530 of a possible 870 contests.

Boston's outfield is currently projected to include Alex Verdugo and Enrique Hernandez with Rob Refsnyder and Jarren Duran competing for the final spot. Eric Hosmer and Triston Casas are likely to share first base/designated hitter duties.
