The San Diego Padres and right-hander Brent Honeywell agreed to a one-year contract, the club announced Friday.

The deal is a split pact, which will pay Honeywell $725,000 if he's in the majors and $200,000 if he's in the minor leagues, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The Padres also announced a one-year contract for outfielder Adam Engel. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Engel spent the first six seasons of his career with the Chicago White Sox. The 31-year-old is a lifetime .225/.280/.350 hitter who's recorded 30 home runs and 123 RBIs across 523 games.

Honeywell spent the 2022 season in the Oakland Athletics organization. He struggled to an 0-3 record with a 7.08 ERA, 1.97 WHIP, and 24 strikeouts across 13 minor-league appearances (two starts).

The 27-year-old hurler was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2014. He was rated as the 11th-best prospect in baseball, according to Baseball America, heading into the 2018 campaign. However, Honeywell missed that entire season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He dealt with arm and elbow issues in 2019 and 2020 as well.

Honeywell has made just three MLB appearances, all of which came in 2021 with the Rays.
